It’s summer, it’s hot, and you need to throw a backyard birthday party, what do you do? Have a backyard water slide birthday party! So easy, so fun, and your kids will be talking about their amazing birthday party for months afterwards. 

Transform your backyard into a watery wonderland and host the ultimate summer bash with a backyard water slide party! Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, graduation, or simply embracing the sunny season, here are some fun ideas to make a splash at your next outdoor event.

Three of my children are 2 years 2 weeks apart, and they have summer birthdays. Last year, we threw a big summer birthday bash and combined all three of their birthdays with a backyard water party, and it was the perfect way to celebrate my kids and beat the summer heat!

Water Slide Wonderland:

Set the stage for an unforgettable experience by renting a large inflatable water slide. Choose one with twists, turns, and a splash kiddie pool at the bottom for maximum excitement. Water slides can take a boring simple backyard and turn it into the best party of the year for kids.

Search for your local water slide rentals and book or you could buy one to have for future birthday parties. If you buy one, waiting for a Black Friday deal could save you money.

Theme it Up:

Make it extra fun with including theme for the party. From tropical luau to pirate adventure or under the sea, let your imagination run wild. Decorate with colorful banners, and balloons to add to the birthday fun.

Fun Water Games:

Keep the entertainment flowing with DIY water games that are sure to make a splash. The water balloon toss quickly turned in to a massive water balloon fight. You could also have slip and slide races and a water limbo competition. For added excitement, create a DIY dunk tank or water gun station where guests can cool off while having a blast.

For the older kids we bought a dozen water guns and squirt guns and filled several buckets (or a kiddie pool) for easy reloading and they had a massive water gun fight. 

We also bought lots of beach balls for the pool, super soakers for the swimming pool. 

​A fun obstacle course is also a great idea to keep kids entertained.

Refreshing Treats:

Beat the heat with refreshing treats and drinks to keep your guests hydrated. Serve up fruity popsicles, ice-cold lemonade, or create a DIY snow cone station with an assortment of flavors.

Don’t forget to have plenty of water on hand to ensure everyone stays cool and hydrated throughout the festivities.

If it’s going to be really hot summer day, (like it was for us!), buy misters and put several around the backyard for the adults and non-swimmers, along with popup canopy’s. 

Safety First:

While the focus is on fun, safety should always be a top priority. Ensure the water slide is set up properly according to manufacturer instructions and supervised at all times. Provide life jackets for younger guests or those who may not be strong swimmers, and establish clear rules for safe sliding and pool use.

Since we knew there would be lots of kids at our combined kid summer bash, we hired a lifeguard. It was so great knowing someone was always watching the pool, which gave me extra piece of mind during the party. 

Keep it Simple:

The best part about a backyard waterslide birthday party is that you can keep it simple. No need to go over the top with party decorations, food or crazy activities (while you most definitely can), lots of fun will be had regardless. 

For younger children, waterslides are so much fun, a great time for everyone, and are a great value with a low price. Don’t underestimate the fun that can be had by the big kids too.

Evening Extravaganza:

Extend the excitement into the evening with a backyard water slide party under the stars. Illuminate the area with string lights, lanterns, or glow sticks for a magical atmosphere.

Set up a bonfire for roasting marshmallows and sharing stories, creating unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.
