As a mom of four I am always trying to find the best gifts for Christmas and Birthdays. It can be challenging, especially since we are all so busy and don’t want to buy something our kids won’t like or don’t end up playing with.
9 year olds are a great age for some fun toys. They are becoming independent, more sophisticated, and usually want something either super cool or challenging. They are finally at the age to move out of the little kid toys, and in to some new more advanced toys.
My son turned 9, and he is all boy! His birthday is close to Christmas, so I spend extra time making sure he doesn’t get overlooked. He loves Pokemon Cards, sports, video games, and challenging stem toys. This age is really so much fun.

Pokemon Cards: We get this pack every year for all four of my kids. They are a great deal and you are guaranteed at least one rare.
Pokémon Battle Academy game: Looking for a family game night? We have this game and my boys love playing it!
LEGO, Need a “Santa” Gift Idea?
Do you still do “Santa” gifts? We do at our house because we still have younger kids and we are keeping the magic alive.
If your 9 year old loves Legos, 9 is a great age to buy the really cool, more complicated, advanced Lego sets. The older age kits get to be really fun!
I highly recommend you stick with the official LEGO brand. The other “lego” options are not good. Their instructions are harder to follow, often missing pieces and the quality at the end is not as good.
LEGO Technic Ford F-150 Raptor: This is an awesome lego set. My son loves most all Lego building sets, but this one was a huge hit and it is now displayed on his dresser.
LEGO Technic Chevrolet Corvette: This one my son built at nine years old and really liked it. It’s perfect for older kids who still like playing with Legos. The building kit is very detailed and can be played with once completed.
